The Polimetre Legault team compiled the 252 promises of the Coalition Avenir Québec’s (CAQ) platform in the 2018 provincial elections with the objective of tracking their achievement over the course of the CAQ’s four-year mandate. The CAQ presented its platform in the form of web pages under the heading "Our ideas" and press releases published daily on its website during the election campaign. The Polimetre team collected all these web pages and communiqués, then merged them into a single document to optimize the process of extracting the CAQ’s promises. You can access this platform by clicking here. After the Polimeters Marois and Couillard, this third Polimeter is tracking a political party that has never been in power , for the first time. You will find the results of the elections held on October 1, 2018 at the end of this presentation of the Legault Polimeter.
Each promise is rated as « promise kept », « promise kept in part or in the works », « promise broken », or « not yet rated ». Each rating is supported by a citation drawn from government press releases, government bills, other official public documents or media sources. For the moment, for lack of sufficient resources, we use French for statements of promises and for quotes in support of our verdicts. We hope to upload all sources in English as well when we have resources to do so.
The report card above provides an up-to-date tally of all the promises. Click on the wording of each rating to see individual promises. Click on the individual promise to see a citation from the source on which the rating is based. Then, click on “source” to access the supporting document from which the citation was extracted. Click here to know more about the methodology that is used to rate promises.
The polimetre is updated on a regular basis by the Polimeter research team, which is associated with the Centre for the Analysis of Public Policy at Université Laval. Team members are politically independent. The project is funded by a grant from the Fonds de recherche du Québec société et culture.
We want to hear your suggestions and comments. For tips or comments on our campaign promise database, please e-mail us at polimetre@capp.ulaval.ca. If you are commenting on a specific promise, please include the wording of the promise.
