Slovakia - Transposition of the EU Directive on Whistleblowing
05-Feb-2021
Two years since the Whistleblowing Protection Law (01 March 2019) established a Slovak Whistleblower Protection Office, and after much delay in the selection process, the National Council of the Slovak Republic has appointed it’s first Director - Zuzana Dlugosova. Dlugosova nomination had previously been blocked in September 2020.
The new institution will be the first independent state administration body intended to raise awareness of the protection of whistleblowers as well as provide remuneration in certain cases. It will submit reports on it’s activities to the National Council of the Slovak Republic annually. The long delay in getting the office operational had been discussed in the media, as have reports of the renumeration of the position.
There is speculation that now this appointment has been mode, transposition of the EU Directive is complete as the current framework is perceived to meet the minimum standards of the Directive.
