EU Directive on Whistleblowing

In 2019 the European Union adopted a far-reaching Directive on the protection of persons who report breaches of Union law.

The ‘EU Directive on Whistleblowing’ entered into force on the 16th of December 2019 and each of the 27 EU Member States have until the 17th of December 2021 to transpose its provisions into their national legal and institutional systems.

The EU Whistleblowing Meter was created by the Whistleblowing International Network to track the progress of transposition across all 27 Member States.

Aiming for the strongest integration into the Greek legal system of the EU Whistleblowing Directive, Transparency International Greece sent the report “Effective Integration of the EU Directive on the Protection of Whistleblowers, Analysis and Proposals of DD-E “ to the Minister of Justice, Mr. Costas Tsiaras ( Costas Tsiaras ), to the Chairman of the relevant Legislative Drafting Committee, Mr. Nikolaos Koutsoukos, and to the Deputy Minister in charge of coordinating the government project, Mr. Akis Skertso.

The Greek government has established a special legal drafting committee for the preparation of a draft law for the integration into the national legal order of Directive 2019/1937 / EE “on the protection of persons reporting violations of Union Law” (EU Directive on Whistleblowing).
