Promise History
2.07.001 - “[T]he Ontario PCs will keep […] fees off licence plates to keep costs down for drivers and businesses”
28-Jan-2025
This is a status quo promise. During their 2018-2022 term, the Ontario government removed the licence plate renewal fee for vehicles owned by individuals or businesses effective 13 March 2022. As renewal fees were not reintroduced during their 2022-2025 term, this promise is considered kept.
“The Ontario government is […] eliminating licence plate renewal fees and the requirement to have a licence plate sticker for passenger vehicles, light-duty trucks, motorcycles and mopeds, effective March 13, 2022. […] [R]enewal fees will also be eliminated for passenger, light duty commercial vehicles, motorcycles and mopeds that are owned by a company or business.”
