Promise History

2.12.26 - “151 new subsidized housing units will be created in the first 3 years [of our mandate, by 2023.]”

Justification

We consider this promise to be in progress since although the Higgs government’s plans were recently revealed, they have not yet been implemented. However between this project, as well as grants awarded to non-profit organizations (like Rising Tides in Moncton, https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/rising-tide-update-21- units-moncton-1.6540183), we believe that the Higgs government is in a good position to fulfill this promise by the planned deadline. Our judgment will be revised again in 2023, taking into account the progress of the project.

“The New Brunswick government is using some of its budget surplus to create 380 new public housing units over the next four years. The $102.2-million project will also include “immediate renovations” to 110 units that have been sitting empty, Social Development Minister Dorothy Shephard said at an announcement in Saint John on Monday.” a little bit farther in this article, it is also indicated that : “it’s the first construction project in 38 years for government-owned housing”.
