Promise History

1.10.034 - We will establish and support 30 community care clinics that offer local, collaborative care from a variety of health professionals in one place and provide dedicated non-clinical staff and administrative support to these clinics to ensure healthcare providers are focused on patients, not paperwork.

Justification

We will revisit our verdict in the coming months, but for now we can note the efforts of the Holt government to open collaborative clinics in the province.

“The Holt government pledged to open 10 community clinics within the first 18 months of its mandate. “We’re on a very aggressive time schedule,” Dornan said. “Some areas are very close to that. They’re just on the edge of getting support from us to open them up as collaborative care clinics. We’re quite optimistic we’re going to deliver on this.” In addition to the clinic in Carleton North, the Fredericton North clinic at Brookside Mall is also high on the list of collaborative clinics in the works, as are sites in Moncton, Saint John, Edmundston, Campbellton, the Acadian Peninsula, St. Stephen, Sussex and Sackville.”

Justification

We note the Holt government’s efforts to invest in the creation of community care clinics. Thus, for the moment, we consider the promise to be “in progress”.

$30 million is being invested in team based primary care, also known as community care clinics. This investment will help us achieve the platform commitment of creating at least 30 local family health teams across the province.

Justification

Traces of this promise can be found in the mandate letter addressed to the Minister of Health, John Dornan. Mandate letters define ministerial objectives. Therefore, this promise remains an ongoing priority, and we will monitor its implementation.
