1.08.001 - “To help those who are new to Canada, we will change the rules so that spouses immigrating to Canada receive immediate permanent residency – rather than a two-year waiting period.”

“Spouses and common-law partners sponsored to immigrate to Canada will no longer experience a period of conditional permanent resident status. Instead, they will have full permanent resident status upon landing. The removal of the conditional permanent residence provision was confirmed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on April 28, 2017.”

“The federal Liberals are about to remove one of the major components of the previous government’s campaign against marriage fraud that typically involved immigration applicants from China and India. Immigration Minister John McCallum was quoted in The Hill Times newspaper saying he plans to move in a matter of months to fulfil a 2015 election promise to end the two-year probation period before overseas spouses sponsored by their Canadian partners obtain permanent residency status.”
