An agreement has been reached between the federal government, British Columbia and First Nations leaders to better protect natural areas.
« Aujourd’hui, le gouvernement du Canada, le gouvernement de la Colombie-Britannique et le Conseil des leaders des Premières Nations ont signé le tout premier accord-cadre tripartite visant à protéger et à conserver la biodiversité, les habitats et les espèces en péril dans la province. L’Accord-cadre permet de prendre des mesures dans le respect des titres et des droits des Premières Nations pour atteindre l’objectif de la Colombie-Britannique et du Canada de protéger 30 p. 100 des terres en Colombie-Britannique d’ici 2030. »

“To conserve and protect these forests, Budget 2022 proposes to provide $55.1 million over three years, starting in 2022-23, to Environment and Climate Change Canada and Natural Resources Canada to establish an Old Growth Nature Fund in collaboration with the Province of British Columbia, non-governmental organizations, and Indigenous and local communities. This funding will be conditional on the Government of British Columbia making a matching investment”
