The 2022 Quebec general election held on October 3, 2022 resulted in a second decisive victory for the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), led by François Legault. The CAQ won 90 of the 125 seats in the National Assembly, 16 more than in 2018, with 40.98% of the popular vote.

Justification

The plan mentions the need to continue reducing GHGs in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, but is only quantified for around 30 tons of GHGs by 2030.

« L’ambitieux projet d’électrification de l’économie et de lutte contre les changements climatiques qui s’amorce se poursuivra au cours des décennies à venir. Si le Plan pour une économie verte 2030 concerne d’abord l’horizon 2030, il vise aussi à placer le Québec sur la bonne trajectoire pour l’avenir, pour 2050 et même au delà. Considérant l’évolution des négociations climatiques internationales et les consensus émergents en la matière, le gouvernement entend prendre un engagement à plus long terme, dans le but d’atteindre la carboneutralité à l’horizon 2050. »
